About Me

Evelyn Alexander is an independent college counselor based in Los Angeles.

She recruited students for 15 years from a broad spectrum of public and private Los Angeles high schools as a volunteer admissions representative for Johns Hopkins, presenting the University at college fairs and speaking about the admissions processes of selective colleges.

Ms. Alexander served as President of the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association’s Los Angeles chapter  for seven years, and on the National Alumni Council for six years.  She also chaired the JHU Second Decade Society’s Admissions Committee for six years, launching a national program to recruit underrepresented minority students to Hopkins.

Before embarking on her career as a college counselor, Alexander was a political and communications consultant.  Her sharp skills in creating and implementing public affairs strategies for clients, including message development and effective media relations helped her guide dozens of candidates for political office to victory.

Ms. Alexander published eight op-ed works on behalf of her clients in the Los Angeles Times, the Daily News and the San Fernando Valley Business Journal.  Additionally, she authored a full-length article in the October/November, 2002 edition of Campaigns & Elections Magazine about a land use initiative whose victory she secured in 2002.

Select former clients include Thomas Properties Group (NYSE:TPGI), the California Women’s Law Center, the Los Angeles Community College District, the Los Angeles Air Force Base Regional Alliance, Nestor Traffic Systems (NASD:NEST), Segway, Sempra Energy and the Van Nuys Airport Association.

Ms. Alexander served for eleven years as a member of the Los Angeles County Aviation Commission, which she chaired in 2003 and again in 2008.  She has held a private pilot’s license for 15+ years.  She has completed twelve half-marathons and one full marathon.

Ms. Alexander holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Hopkins, a Master’s degree from the George Washington University, and a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA.  She and her husband live in Topanga Canyon with their adopted Staffordshire Terrier, Chloe.
